Sometimes life takes us to places we don’t want to go—back to somewhere we thought we left behind or into an unwanted reality. These experiences can contradict our intentions and disrupt the direction we’ve chosen. For example, we might face great loss while manifesting wealth and prosperity. We might encounter rejection, hardship, or loneliness on the path to a healthy relationship.
When I nearly lost everything—more times than I can count—I began doubting everything: the law of attraction, spirituality, my guidance, and my path. At times, I believed I was paying for past-life mistakes. But more often, I felt disconnected from my intuition, relying instead on the physical external world. I questioned my decision to follow my dreams, to trust my intuition, and to live a free and creative life. “I’ve been living in an illusion,” I told myself. Bold decisions—leaving everything behind and spending my life savings on spiritual goals—seemed misguided in hindsight. I had been certain that everything would miraculously work out, as it had before, but it didn’t. At least, not in the way I expected.
At the time, I couldn’t see what life was showing me. My fears and anger consumed me. Sometimes, when life is stable and positive, our negative beliefs, habits, or behaviors remain dormant, hidden in the background. It’s only when we are challenged that these parts of us come to light. Challenges give us an opportunity to confront what’s holding us back.
Even when we’ve done everything “right” and followed the steps, results may not come as expected. Sometimes, things even seem to get worse. Most of us don’t imagine that the manifestation journey might lead us through a dark night of the soul. We expect miracles to unfold smoothly, one after another. And they do—but not always in the ways we anticipate. What might initially seem like a misfortune or painful experience can often be a blessing in disguise, offering us not necessarily what we wanted, but what we truly needed. In the moment, it’s difficult to recognize or appreciate this; we become consumed by the intensity of the experience and overwhelmed by our emotions, unable to see how things might unfold. It’s only with time and reflection that we can begin to understand the lessons and blessings these moments bring.
Each of us has a unique path. For some, moving forward requires letting go of what no longer serves us. Often, these obstacles aren’t obvious. Negative beliefs, habits, or behaviors may linger unnoticed, shaping our reality. It’s only through certain challenges that we gain the clarity needed to recognize them.
We live in a world of comparisons, which can be dangerous. Seeing others achieve their goals quickly and effortlessly, we assume that’s how it should happen for us. When it doesn’t, we feel broken, as if the process doesn’t work for us or that we did something wrong. This mindset stems from trusting external reality more than our internal guidance.
In truth, our journey isn’t just physical—it’s vibrational. We’ve been taught to rely on our brains to plan and control our lives. But as we grow spiritually, we learn to collaborate with our higher self, which knows what’s possible and what lies ahead. This requires us to surrender control—not to something external, but to a part of ourselves that sees beyond our limited perspective.
Unexpected or seemingly negative results are often part of this guidance. Even when things go “wrong,” we are being led to the experiences we need. Many of us understand this conceptually, but living it is a different story. Our minds crave direct, linear paths to success. They resist detours, circles, or relinquishing control. But the higher self operates beyond time and space, perceiving infinite possibilities and guiding us toward the reality aligned with our desires.
Through my uneasy and uncomfortable journey, I gained valuable insights into how I disempower myself. I became aware of how I constantly react in ways that not only fail to serve me and my goals but also stem from childhood behaviors and coping strategies. I realized I could no longer view or respond to life in the same way. To be honest, I was a bit shocked to discover how deeply I believed the narratives my limiting beliefs had created. I thought I had every right to react negatively or feel like a victim in certain situations—it felt natural to me. What I couldn’t see at the time was that I was operating from a belief system. I was the one creating the connection between my reactions and reality, even though I was dealing with neutral events, albeit unwanted ones.
From our perspective, the journey can often feel meandering or even as though we’re moving backward. Yet, these unexpected twists are often the most direct and efficient route to our destination. Embracing this requires trust and patience—qualities that can feel counterintuitive when we’ve been conditioned to take control and responsibility for everything. As I mentioned earlier, you might be dealing with far more than what’s immediately visible. While it’s good to stay focused on your goals, your journey may be leading you through the experiences necessary to become the person who can live the life you desire or have the things you want.
Letting go isn’t passive; it’s a balance of action and surrender. Think of an intuitive artist. They have the skills to paint a masterpiece, but the final image emerges through inspiration. They trust their intuition, allowing it to guide their actions. Similarly, letting go means delegating control of the unseen future to the higher self while taking inspired action in the present.
This process isn’t about abandoning decision-making or becoming passive. It’s about collaboration—working with the higher-self to create a life aligned with our authentic path.
